SGS Olveston United Women are delighted to confirm their ninth signing of the summer with the arrival of Marissia James!
Marissia recently attended one of our August open training sessions where she impressed with her composure on the ball and ability to pick out a pass both short and long from the centre of midfield. Marissia was a late starter in football having played rugby until the age of 11 before progressing into football and discovering the love for the game.
After joining Ashton Girls Marissia spent her youth phase with the South Bristol side before a eight year hiatus from football followed with College and University becoming her focus. With studying complete and a move to the area Marissia would rediscover the footballing bug by joining Bradley Stoke Town Ladies in 2021 where she helped the side win the Gloucestershire County League title and leaves the North Bristol side having made over 34 appearances.
First Team Manager James Eveleigh had this to say about his ninth signing of the summer “Marissia has settled in well into the group and has been working hard in training and showing all the right characteristics we look for in a player. When she told me she had an eight year gap before joining Bradley Stoke I thought she was joking as you wouldn’t know.”
Eveleigh finished by saying “Marissia gives us another great option in the centre of the park and she has already demonstrated fantastic link up play with those around her in training. She made her debut in Wednesday nights friendly against SGS College and acquitted herself really well and I am looking forward to watching her grow and develop further as a player here at The Stoke Gifford Stadium.”
